While the usual construction medium is plexiglass, or acrylics, wood as a medium is sometimes required or preferred. While most modelmakers would not attempt cabinet making, proficiency in the art of wood shaping and finishing is still required in the skill-set of a high-end modelmaker.
The Nixon Library Model debacle was perhaps exceeded only by the story of the ex-President himself. For the very sad story (of the model, not the President), click on the image on the lower right.
Done at cost, and for a credit at the end of this CBS Movie of the Week, we did enjoy working with the art director to create a model for a real Hollywood production. We were even invited on set for the filming. Of course, Mr. DeMille wasn’t there, but we were ready for our close-ups, which were featured in the opening credits of the film.
