Hundreds of hours have been devoted to the design and creation of this miniature of the R.M.S. Titanic.
The model is based upon accurately scaled reductions of actual blueprints and drawings relating to the construction of the actual ship, along with the study of carefully researched drawings, photographs, and renderings. Extreme care has been taken to ensure that the profile of the ship, deck layouts, and other structural details strictly adhere to original designs. The fidelity of this miniature is unmatched, and it includes more details than many Titanic models that are twice or even several times the scale of this one.
The ship’s name is legible on the bow and stern. As with model-making generally in any scale, some details are slightly exaggerated so that they may appear at all. Hull plating bands are representative. On the hull below the waterline, plating is represented with alternating horizontal raised ridges. The port and starboard bilge keels are shown along with a detailed rudder. The outboard wing propellers, and their housings are shown; the larger outboard propellers are finished gold and comprise three blades each. The center turbine driven propeller has 4 blades and is smaller than the outboard two. All major significant “landmark” portholes are portrayed to within 95% inclusion/accuracy.
The rigging of this miniature is made of synthetic human hair. It is the finest scale fiber available which does not suffer greatly from changes in temperature or humidity. Some lines are connected at one end only, where possible, to allow for minute expansion or contraction without sagging or distortion. The rigging plan represents 95% of the major lines that are called out and visible in the actual rigging diagrams. Some lesser lines and smaller incidental lines are not shown.
The three forward functional funnels and the aft “dummy” funnel are the size of a grain of rice. These include top gratings relevant to their function, raised dimensional bands, weathering, steam pipes fore and aft, gold steam whistles, scribed panel seams, auxiliary piping, and guywires.
